Suliano Matanitobua

Ratu Suliano Matanitobua is a Fijian chief and politician, who previously served as Minister of State for Fijian Affairs in the early 2000s, and is currently an Opposition Member of Parliament.〔( Return seized papers, President tells Fiji Police ), ''Fiji Times'' (1 December 2006)〕 He was first appointed to the interim Cabinet formed by Laisenia Qarase in the wake of the Fiji coup of 2000.
He first participated in the Great Council of Chiefs in 1989, at the age of 22.〔(Summary of world broadcasts: Asia, Pacific, Issues 3881–3893 ) (BBC 2000)〕 In 2000, he was listed as assistant minister for Fijian Affairs.〔
In the 2001 parliamentary election, Matanitobua won the Namosi Fijian Communal Constituency for the Soqosoqo Duavata ni Lewenivanua (SDL), taking 85.5 percent of the vote. In 2006 election, he held the seat by an even larger majority.
Matanitobua's parliamentary career came to an end with the military coup of 5 December 2006. He was returned to Parliament, however, as a candidate of the Social Democratic Liberal Party in the general elections of 2014, the first since the 2006 coup.
Matanitobua holds the chiefly title of Tui Namosi, to which he was installed in 1999, replacing his father, Ratu Saloon Matanitobua.〔
